Irwindale, CA: On Saturday, March 27, 2021, at about 1:41 A.M., Irwindale police officers responded to the report of a bicyclist down in the eastbound lanes of Huntington Drive at the San Gabriel River Bridge in the city of Irwindale (2900 Block of Huntington Drive).
On arrival, our officers located a non-responsive female adult in the roadway with significant traumatic injuries. Paramedics from the Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived and pronounced the female deceased at the scene.
Based on witness statements and evidence found at the scene, it was evident the victim had been struck by a vehicle going eastbound on Huntington Drive, which fled the scene after the collision.
A short time later, officers from the West Covina Police Department stopped a vehicle in the area of Francisquito Avenue and Sunset Avenue in the city of West Covina. During the course of their investigation, they discovered evidence connecting the vehicle to the fatal hit and run traffic collision in the city of Irwindale. Irwindale Police Officers went to the scene in West Covina and assumed the investigation. As a result, the driver, 21-year-old Adrian Ortega of La Puente, was arrested without incident.
Ortega was booked at the West Covina City Jail on felony vehicular manslaughter, felony drunk driving and felony hit-and-run charges. He remains in custody on $100,000.00 bail.
