Irwindale, CA: On Saturday, April 10, 2021, at about 3:08 P.M., Irwindale police officers responded to a solo-vehicle traffic collision at the intersection of Live Oak Avenue and Arrow Highway (West) in the city of Irwindale.
On arrival, the officers discovered that a blue Honda Accord had stuck a large palm tree in the center divider, leaving two 15-year-old female occupants injured, one of them critically.
One the juveniles initially told investigating officers that she was driving the Honda at the time of the collision with the tree. The minor was later re-interviewed at the hospital by detectives and she recanted her story, admitting that her stepfather was driving the vehicle at the time of the collision and that he fled the location on foot before the police arrived, leaving the two injured juveniles alone at the scene.
During the course of their investigation, our detectives learned that the driver, Alexander Ramos, was a convicted felon and was on parole. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Ramos and, with the assistance of Ramos’ Parole Agent, negotiated Ramos’ surrender on the warrant. On Monday, April 12, 2021, Ramos turned himself in to Irwindale police detectives and he was arrested without incident.
Ramos, 41-years-old residence of El Monte, was booked at the West Covina City Jail for charges of felony Hit & Run Causing Injury or Death, felony Child Endangerment and violation of his parole conditions. He remains in custody on a no-bail parole hold.
One of the injured juveniles remains in the hospital in serious condition. No charges are being sought on the second juvenile, who was later released to her parent.
