Heads Up Irwindale, Thar’s a Train a Comin’!

IMG_4810Beginning Thursday, February 3rd, Burlington Northern Santa Fe trains will resume freight train service through the SGV for the first time in more than a year, with trains running through the cities of Irwindale, Azusa, Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne and Pomona

Freight train service through the 6-city corridor was halted in 2020 due to construction of the Glendora-to-Pomona extension of the LA Metro’s L-Line.  This work has resulted in new freight line track beds, as well as new grade crossing gates, signals, etc. along the route.

Trains of all sorts are a common sight in Irwindale, but this is a great time to remind everyone in these communities to be aware that freight trains are coming through once again and follow all the safety rules around an active rail line.

For more information and tips on rail crossing safety, please visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s rail safety webpage.
