Irwindale, CA: On Monday, February 21, 2022 at about 4:29 P.M., officers from the Irwindale Police Department responded to the report of an injury traffic collision in the eastbound lanes of Arrow Highway at Gayhurst Street in the city of Irwindale.
On arrival, our officers discovered that a gray 2019 Kia sedan was traveling eastbound on Arrow Highway when it collided with a white 2016 Ford pick-up truck that was making a left turn from westbound on Arrow Highway to southbound on Gayhurst Street. As a result of the collision, the Kia sedan subsequently struck a Southern California Edison (SCE) utility pole, causing a power outage to residences and businesses in the area.
Paramedics from the Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived and pronounced the male driver of the Kia deceased at the scene. A female passenger was extricated from the vehicle and taken by helicopter to a local trauma center with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Ford truck was not injured and remained at the scene, cooperating with the investigating officers.
All lanes of Arrow Highway between Elton Street and Lante Street were closed for approximately 8 hours during the traffic collision investigation. Officers from the Azusa and Glendora Police Departments assisted with the investigation. SCE crews are currently on-scene to restore power and to repair the damaged utility pole. This work is expected to take 24-hours to complete.
The identity of the deceased driver, an adult male, is not being released at this time, pending confirmation of his identity by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
The cause of this traffic collision remains under investigation and it is not yet known if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.
