PRESS RELEASE - FATAL HIT AND RUN TRAFFIC COLLISION AND SUBSEQUENT INVESTIGATION LEADS TO THE ARREST OF A FELONY HIT AND RUN SUSPECT.
Irwindale, CA: On Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at about 09:21 P.M., Irwindale police officers and the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the report of a traffic collision in the 600 block of Live Oak Avenue.
On arrival, our officers located a non-responsive male adult laying in the south easement of the eastbound lanes of Live Oak
Avenue, just west of Arrow Highway. The male had significant traumatic injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by fire department paramedics.
Based on a witness statement and evidence at the scene, it appeared the victim was stuck by a vehicle going eastbound on Live Oak Avenue, which fled the scene after the collision.
During the course of their investigation, officers were able to identify the suspect vehicle involved in the traffic collision. Irwindale Police Department detectives would later locate the vehicle, as well as the suspected driver involved in the fatal traffic collision in the city of Pomona. As a result, the driver, 50-year-old Patricia Lopez of Pomona, was arrested without incident. The suspect vehicle was impounded.
Lopez was booked at the West Covina City Jail on vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run charges. She remains in custody on $50,000 bail.
The name of the deceased party is being withheld at this time, pending identification and notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
