Congratulation to Sergeant Rene Sapien, who graduated from the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute (SBSLI) today after completing the intensive 8-month course in Folsom, California.

Sergeant Sapien joins many other Irwindale Police Department leaders who have attended this widely respected program.

Irwindale Police Chief Ty Henshaw was on hand to take part in the ceremony and in presenting Sergeant Sapien with his certificate.

Designed and implemented in 1988 through the efforts of California law enforcement professionals and top educators and trainers, the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute is an intense program based on experiential learning techniques. Students are challenged to learn new ways to resolve issues through group and individual work. It is a professional development program designed to stimulate personal growth, leadership, and ethical decision-making in California law enforcement front-line supervisors.

SBSLI courses are offered through the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) several times each year and alternate between northern and southern California.

Sergeant Sapien attended 3-day sessions each month over an 8-month period, where he received reading, study and research assignments for each class session.

SBSLI is a comprehensive and intensive program that demands a good deal of time and effort. We congratulate Sergeant Rene Sapien on his achievement.
