On Thursday, June 7, 2018, IPD Sergeant Mike Arias, Corporal Diego Cornejo and Officer Kristin Reyes had the honor of carrying the Special Olympics torch and flag on behalf of the Irwindale Police Department as the run made its way through the city of Irwindale as part of the annual Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run.
Led by IPD police cars with their red lights and sirens, our contingent of officers ran the 2 mile route from the intersection of Arrow Highway and Vincent Avenue to southbound on Arrow Highway all the way to the intersection of Badillo Avenue/Sunset in West Covina, where they handed the torch over to West Covina Police Department / FBI - West Covina Team.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run ultimately ends at the 2018 Special Olympics Summer Games Opening Ceremony at the California State University, Long Beach, where it will be used to light the cauldron at the start of the Games.
Thank you for to all the residents and commuters who honked and cheered us on during the run and thank you to Sergeant Arias, Corporal Cornejo and Officer Reyes for representing the Irwindale Police Department and supporting this great cause!
