Irwindale, CA: On Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at about 5:28 A.M., Irwindale police officers and the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the report of a person down in the northbound traffic lanes of Irwindale Avenue at the 210 freeway overpass.

On arrival, our officers located a non-responsive male adult laying in the middle of the northbound lanes of Irwindale Avenue, just south of the on-ramp to the eastbound 210 freeway.  The male had significant traumatic injuries.  He was treated at the scene by fire department paramedics and was transported to a local trauma center by ambulance.  He later succumbed to his injuries.

Based on witness statements and evidence at the scene, it appears the victim was stuck by a vehicle going northbound on Irwindale Avenue, which fled the scene after the collision.

Members of the police department’s Traffic Investigation Unit and Detective Bureau responded to the scene and are actively investigating the traffic collision.  Officers from the Covina and Azusa Police Departments also responded and assisted with traffic control and crime scene investigation.  Irwindale Avenue at the 210 freeway overpass was closed for approximately six (6) hours due to the investigation.

The name of the deceased party is being withheld at this time, pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

We are asking that anyone who may have witnessed this traffic collision or who may have information about the incident to contact the Irwindale Police Department Detective Bureau at (626) 430-2245.

Information can also be sent anonymously via our mobile app or via LA Crimes Stoppers on their web site or by calling (800) 222-TIPS.
